Depuis, le fantôme de cet être bicéphale et technoïde, voulu à la mort dès la prononciation de son nom, hante les nuits de tous les Pulp, Jesus & Mary Chain, et Primal Scream de la terre. Etrangeté avant-gardiste, proto-punk qui n'affirmait ne jouer que du blues. Un blues tourbillonnant, répétitif et haletant qui donnait l'impression de courir sur place. Rockabilly pyschédélique et pervers, c'était ça Suicide. Un rock'n'roll réinventé, où l'électronique se faisait suave et les guitares absentes. Musique incantatoire où un crooner illuminé incarnait le désir (Girl, Cheree), la révolte sociale (Rocket USA) et un réalisme effroyable (Frankie Teardrop).
Le premier album de Suicide. Vision détournée d'une vie qui n'ose se dire ainsi. Effrayante parce qu'entêtante. Obsessionnelle comme la certitude d'une fin qui ne veut pas venir.

Ah Frankie Teardrop; c'était le parfait morceau à faire écouter au casque à quelqu'un qui ne le connaissait pas, juste pour le plaisir de le voir sursauter à chaque hurlement...
Springsteen avait fait une très belle cover de leur Cry baby, lors de son dernier passage à Bercy.
Faut aussi jeter une oreille sur les Vega solo du début des années 80 (Magdalena et autre Juke box baby)

Alors voilà c'est exactement ce qui m'est arrivé, écouter cet album au casque la première fois, sans être prévenu. Ca remonte quand même à un paquet d'années (80 ou 81). Et comme le volume général sonore de l'album est assez faible, forcément j'avais poussé le son...

Aaah ! Cet album (et le titre Frankie Teardrop plus encore) a marqué mon adolescence. J'avais découvert ce groupe lors d'une émission radiophonique sur Europe 1 (une émission tardive et punk ! oui ça a existé !). J'ai acheté l'album dès que j'ai pu en économisant sur mon maigre argent de poche. Mes parents appréciaient très modérément le passage en boucle du disque.
Aujourd'hui, j'ai le CD. Ton article me fait penser que je ne l'ai pas écouté depuis longtemps. Merci
